How to get the best out of your coffee machine

Along with the ubiquitous holiday sweater, seasonal socks, and Christmas chocolates, did you happen to un-wrap a shiny new espresso machine last year? If so, lucky you! Now that it’s out of the box, sitting on the kitchen counter with the promise of many-a-latte, cappuccinos, and espressos ahead, we’ve got some tips and suggestions on how you can make the most of your new machine.

If you have a fabulous Sprada machine, you are way ahead of the game. To keep your super-automatic machine in tip-top shape, make sure you have the appropriate water filters and cleaning materials on hand. Not sure what to buy? Check out our site www.sprada.ch and either purchase on line or go to our nearest retail outlet for all your necessities.

Brewing with a super automatic espresso machine is one of the easiest ways to get your daily caffeine fix. Once the reservoir and bean hopper are filled, you are basically one push of a button away from enjoying a delicious brew.

Try to avoid using particularly oily whole beans; they are not optimal in the use of a super auto machine. The combination of finely ground coffee with a large amount of oil can and generally will, cause performance issues over time. In addition, the oil can make beans stick together, preventing them from falling properly into the grinding burrs.

As a general rule, if you pick up a bean between your thumb and forefinger and a visible residue is left on your finger, the bean may be too oily for use in a super auto.

We wouldn’t recommend using whole beans from your local café in your super automatic, however, you can purchase your favourite blend as a preground espresso and add it to your machine’s bypass doser instead. We carry several coffees that can produce an equivalent or even better flavour than the beans you’re used to that will work beautifully in your machine, so it may help to sample our selection of coffees (www.sprada.ch)
